On Friday, 14 June, at 11.00 a.m. on Czerwieński Boulevard, the biggest educational historical event in Krakow will start: St John’s Fair. Renaissance dancers, journeymen and students will meet at the foot of Wawel Hill, falconers and musicians will present their skills, kids will win patents and adults will journey back in time to a 16th-century city. We invite you to the Fair from 14 to 16 June 2019.
This year’s edition is dedicated to the city’s residents: we will learn how they worked, how they played and how they disturbed the peace. The unruly fairgoers will be taken care of by the executioner and inquisitor, and the peace will be kept by patrols of the municipal and city guards, who will be ready to present their combat skills at any time. Craftsmen will invite you to demonstrations in their workshops, and knowledge-hungry students will find their way to colleges and lecture halls. We will see flag bearer, halberdier and musketeer shows, fire theatre, commedia dell’arte shows and Renaissance fashion shows.
We warmly invite parents with small children – a special “Parent Zone” will be prepared at the Fair. Toddlers and their parents will be able to relax in a specially arranged space. You will be able to feed your child, take a break from the bustle of the fair, and encourage playing with wooden toys. There will also be a screen and a changing table in the zone.
The originators and coordinators of St John’s Fair are Róża and Mariusz Wollny.
The Fair is organised by the City of Krakow and the Krakow Festival Office.
